Art Cow Auction Raises $1.49 Million
Sunday, Nov. 13, more than 1,200 attendees witnessed a public art auction unlike anything seen in Austin before when 40 incredibly artistic cows found new homes, raising $1.49 million for The Superhero Kids Endowment at the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. Held at The Moody Theater at ACL Live, the “Famous Austin Art Cow Auction” featured The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno and famous auctioneer Spanky Assiter.
The famous cow art — a collection of life-sized fiberglass cow sculptures that were transformed by Austin-area artists and had been displayed on the streets of Austin for three months — were sold to the highest bidders with final bids ranging from $10,000 to a world-record-breaking $150,000 and an average bid price of $33,660. Typically, CowParade auctions have raised, on average, $7,500 per cow. Additionally, more than 20 cows that were not sold on the live auction block, were sold at a silent auction immediately following the live auction event that went for a minimum of $2,250 and up to $10,000.
Thank you to the sponsors, artists and Austin community for making this event such a wonderful success.
